JARRAH & MARRI HONEYS vs MANUKA HONEY
KOORA Jarrah and Marri Honey vs Manuka: Which Honey Is Better for You?
For years, Manuka honey has held the global spotlight. It is the honey most people think of when they want something strong, premium, and therapeutic. But there are honeys that quietly outperform it — with unparalleled antimicrobial activity and higher antioxidant levels, a smoother and tastier flavour, and a unique low Glycemic-Index profile.
These Super honeys are Jarrah and Marri, native to Western Australia’s ancient forests.
Below, we break down the key differences between KOORA's Jarrah and Marri vs Manuka so you can choose the best honey for your wellness routine.
"The (antimicrobial) activity of the two species (Jarrah and Marri) was about 90% greater than the average activity of New Zealand's Manuka honey."

The KOORA Difference - What Sets KOORA's Jarrah and Marri Honey apart?
What sets Jarrah and Marri honey apart from Manuka honey? While Manuka has gained popularity in recent years, it often comes with a hefty price tag and varying quality.
Manuka may be the world’s most recognized honey, but Jarrah and Marri together represent Australia’s rarest superfoods.
Jarrah stands out for its
- unparalleled TA rating,
- antioxidant richness,
- prebiotic power, and
- smooth caramel-like flavour
—ideal for those seeking the strongest therapeutic impact.
Marri, with its floral sweetness and high TA25+ rating, provides the same wellness benefits at a more accessible price point, making it perfect for daily rituals and family use.
Jarrah delivers exceptionally high antimicrobial and antioxidant activity at a significantly lower cost per activity rating than comparable high-grade Manuka, giving you more functional strength for every dollar.
Both Jarrah and Marri Honeys are also naturally low in glycemic index (GI) compared to Manuka or any other regular honeys, which have moderate to high GI.

Glycemic Index
Jarrah and Marri are Naturally Low GI - Why is Low GI Important
The glycemic index (GI) is a scientific scale that measures how quickly a food raises your blood sugar after eating it. High-GI foods cause a fast spike, while low-GI foods release energy slowly and steadily.
This makes low GI an important indicator for people who want balanced energy, better metabolic control, or reduced inflammation throughout the day.
Unlike most honeys, which typically sit around GI 60–65, Jarrah and Marri honey naturally sits at GI ~46, placing it firmly in the low-GI category. This means:
- Slower, steadier energy release
- Reduced sugar spikes
- A gentler insulin response
- More stable focus throughout the day
- Better support for gut comfort and digestion

Shipments of Manuka Honey to Japan Rejected for Exceeding Glyphosate Limits
In the past few years, several shipments of Manuka honey have been rejected by Japanese authorities for exceeding Japan’s glyphosate limits, even though the Manuka honey companies state that their honey is glyphosate residue free. The reason for the discrepancy is that Japan has stricter regulations for glyphosate levels in honey with a limit of 0.01 parts per million, 10 times stricter than New Zealand’s regulation of 0.1 ppm.
KOORA's Jarrah and Marri honey are sustainably sourced from wild forests that are free from genetically modified (GMO) crops and agricultural chemicals such as glyphosate and other pesticides, ensuring that you receive a product with supreme purity that is completely free from harmful chemicals.

At KOORA we are tested as glyphosate-free down to 0.004 ppm, the lowest detectable level that’s 25 times stricter than the limits for New Zealand’s Manuka honey.
