"The (antimicrobial) activity of the two species (Jarrah and Marri honey) was about 90% greater than the average activity of New Zealand's Manuka honey."

Dr Rob Manning, Research into Western Australian Honeys

How KOORA Compares to the Category Leader

Several shipments of Manuka honey have been rejected by Japanese authorities for exceeding Japan's glyphosate limits (0.01 ppm), which is 10x stricter than New Zealand's standard of 0.1 ppm. KOORA honey is sustainably sourced from wild forests free from GMO crops and agricultural chemicals, and has been tested as glyphosate free at 0.004 ppm, 25 times stricter than New Zealand's limits for glyphosate in Manuka honey.

FAQ: Questions, Answered.

What health benefits does KOORA honey offer?

KOORA Jarrah and Marri honeys are rich in antioxidants and have powerful antimicrobial properties. They support immune health, soothe sore throats, aid digestion, and promote overall wellness.

Key benefits include:

  • Lab-certified Total Activity (TA) for unmatched antimicrobial potency
  • Non-Methylglyoxal (MGO) bioactivity for stronger immune support without the health risks associated with high MGO in Manuka honey
  • Unique naturally low GI for stable blood sugar with no sugar spikes or crashes
  • Rich in antioxidants and anti-inflammatory compounds
  • Prebiotics for gut health
  • Amino acids that enhance collagen production for skin and joints
  • Naturally occurring tryptophan to support restful sleep
  • Unbeatable value for money - superior benefits at a better-value price compared to other medicinal honey such as Manuka

For full benefits, visit the product pages for Jarrah TA35+ and Marri TA25+.

What does “TA” on KOORA's label mean?

TA stands for Total Activity, a scientific measure of a honey’s antimicrobial potency. Every batch of KOORA honey is independently lab-tested and certified for its TA rating. The higher the TA, the stronger its ability to fight bacteria and support immunity.

If you are familiar with Manuka honey, the number after UMF (for example UMF20) is actually the TA rating of Manuka honey. The same lab-test is used to determine the antimicrobial total activity.

However unlike Manuka honey, KOORA’s antimicrobial bioactivity is derived from gentler hydrogen peroxide and higher antioxidant levels, not methylglyoxal (MGO), a risky compound. This makes KOORA a stronger, healthier, and safer choice for long-term health.

Is all honey antibacterial? How does Jarrah and Marri honey compare to regular honey?

While almost all raw, unheated honey has some mild antibacterial activity due to natural acidity and low moisture, common honeys (including standard local raw honeys in the US) typically test at a Total Activity (TA) of 0 to 5.

In contrast, authentic Western Australian Jarrah and Marri honeys are medicinal-grade superfoods that routinely achieve independently certified ratings of TA 25+ to TA 35+.

Scientific studies confirm that Western Australian Jarrah and Marri honeys exhibit some of the highest antibacterial activity ever recorded

Here's one way to visualize the difference: If a standard bottle of local raw honey is like a mild, over-the-counter vitamin, a jar of KOORA's TA 35+ Jarrah honey is like a high-strength, therapeutic-grade medicine. It packs up to 35 times the antimicrobial punch, making it a true active superfood rather than just a sweet spread."

What is the origin of KOORA honey?

KOORA's rare Jarrah and Marri honeys are harvested from Jarrah and Marri trees. These trees are native and endemic (meaning they do not exist anywhere else in the world) to the remote south-western region of Western Australia's pristine, ancient Jarrah forests.

The Marri tree gets its name from the aboriginal Noongar language. In Noongar, Marri means "blood" and the Marri tree is known to the Noongar people as the Medicine Tree.

Jarrah honey is especially rare as explained in the next FAQ.

Why is Jarrah honey considered so rare and exclusive?

Jarrah honey is a highly limited natural resource due to the unique lifecycle of the Jarrah tree (Eucalyptus marginata). Unlike commercial crops, these ancient trees grow exceptionally slowly, taking between 70 to 120 years to reach full maturity, and living for up to 500 years. Because of this slow growth, Jarrah is never farmed or cultivated in plantations.

Furthermore, mature Jarrah trees only bloom once every two to four years, relying entirely on specific seasonal conditions to flower. This unpredictable and infrequent blossoming cycle means that Jarrah honey can only be harvested in small, precious windows, making it one of the rarest honeys in the world.

Is KOORA honey pasteurized?

No, KOORA honey is never pasteurized, ultra-heat-treated, or micro-filtered. We keep our Western Australian honeys completely raw, raw-filtered only to remove bee and hive residue. This ensures every jar retains its native live enzymes, potent antioxidants, and certified antimicrobial activity, which commercial high-heat pasteurization otherwise destroys.

To maximize the therapeutic benefits of your raw honey when used in tea or hot beverages, we recommend letting hot drinks cool to around 60°C (140°F) before stirring raw Jarrah or Marri honey in. Pouring boiling water directly onto raw honey can "burn" and degrade their delicate nutritional compounds. For the perfect cup, steep your tea first, add a splash of milk or cool water to lower the temperature quickly, and then mix in your bioactive KOORA honey.

Can KOORA honey be used in skincare?

Yes! KOORA honeys can be applied topically to moisturize skin, soothe minor burns, and help with eczema or psoriasis or even bruises. Their high TA rating enhances antimicrobial effectiveness. They also contain amino acids that support collagen production for youthful, glowing skin. Dilute with water before applying directly.

How should I store KOORA Honey?

Store the honeys in a cool, dry place at room temperature away from sunlight. Ensure the lid is tightly closed to maintain freshness and prevent any crystallization setting in early.

Is KOORA honey safe for people with diabetes?

KOORA honey has a naturally low glycemic index (GI) - lower than Manuka, clover, and buckwheat honeys. This means it causes a slower, more stable rise in blood sugar, making it a smarter sweetener for those managing diabetes or pre-diabetes.

Disclaimer: KOORA honey is still a natural sugar and should be consumed in moderation. We recommend one to two teaspoons per day, preferably straight from the spoon, as part of a balanced diet. Always consult your healthcare provider for personalized dietary advice. For more details please refer to our Disclaimer section in the footer.

Can infants and babies consume raw honeys?

While raw honey is generally safe for adults and children over the age of one, infants below 12 months of age should NOT consume raw honey due to the risk of botulism.
